Invergordon is a young distillery, built in 1959. Since 1993 she is part of Whyte & Mackay that we know primarily from Dalmore, Isle of Jura and Fettercairn distilleries. Today I will try a very young grain from 2009, recently bottled from an Octave, an active small cask - reconstructed from a sherry cask- in which the whisky was finished for three months. It was selected by and bottled for Drankenshop Bams from Maastricht in Holland.

Wood glue, putty, coconut milk, pencil, ferns, vase water, nail polish remover… That and much more is offered by this young grain. It even has a slice of roast beef on the nose. A bit weird, but as a whole it does seem to work more or less.

It is creamy on the palate. Typical grain with lots of vanilla, popcorn, coconut and a big hit of pepper. Quite a bit of character for such a young whisky, but I presume the small cask is responsible for that. I quite like this. It reminds me a bit of sweet, condensed milk. The weird notes on the nose, feel free to call them off-notes, luckily do not return.

It becomes quite bitter in the aftertaste, I must add. Chicory.

A whisky that has a hard time of pleasing me, I must say. Thank you, Benny.
