After having tasted the Clontarf Single malt (which was surpringly good) and the Clontarf Reserve (which I dubbed the Single Malt's little brother), I had the final Clontarf, the Classic Blend.

This was the bottom part of the Clontarf Trinity (a bottle divided in three, with the Classic Blend being the bottom third, the Single Malt the top, the Reserve the middle - still follow?). Anyway, again I was happily surprised.

The nose is very fresh, with oak and a little bit of caramel, again loads of citrus (I think oranges). Totally peat-free as it suits an Irish whiskey. It's mouthwatering.

On the palate, this lighty oily dram delivers very crisp sweetness (maybe a tad over the top, even) with citrus on the forefront.

The finish is - again - medium, but luckily a little less spice than the Reserve.

I've had single malts that tasted worse than this blend. Not wanting to state the obvious, but the popular myth that blends are by definition inferior to single malts is exactly that: a myth.

I thoroughly enjoyed this blend. One to try!

You seem to be a big fan of Clontarfs. I must try and pick a bottle up, how much did this cost?

The Clontarf Trinity (three small bottle parts coming together as one bottle) can be purchased for about £20. I just bought if because it looked nice and it was a cheap way of tasting the whole range. But indeed, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect this to be good at all, but it was.

I recently enjoyed the Clontarf 1014 Blend. I think the review of markjedi1 sums it up very well. I found the Clontarf 1014 Blend to be a nice mellow Irish whiskey with muted flavors of orange peel and some slight sherry sweetness. The price was quite reasonable as well for 750ml at $20 USD. Enjoy this Irish sipping whiskey.
