The Espresso Roast appeared in the Blender’s Batch Series and – like the Rum Cask Finish – comes in 50cl bottles. They got their inspiration for the roasted malt from brewery Guinness (also owned by Diageo). They are not the first though, as Glenmorangie already did this years ago with their Signet. It was bottled at a slightly higher strength.

I get vanilla, spices and the promised hint of chocolate on the nose. This is very easy-going. A good allrounder, making me think quite some Cardhu went in the mix. It even reminds me a bit of a stout beer, but with lots of woody notes.

It is just a tad too soft on the palate in my opinion. Could have done with a little more body. But the taste is fine. Orange liqueur, nutmeg, chocolate, subtle vanilla and some woodsmoke.

The finish is long and warming, but with the emphasis on the spices. It lingers quite long on the tongue.

From the three Blender’s Batches that I have tried so far, this is the best, despite the light body. The finish is the best part.
