With modern production methods I wonder there are many really "bad" whiskies out there. There are probably plenty of boring or overpriced whiskies but I've yet to encounter anything undrinkable.
I've had a few I wouldn't rush back to but, at the end of the day, the only thing worse than a mediocre whisky is no whisky at all!!!

Had one called "The Speyside" - tried it and ended up giving the rest of the bottle away. Just awful !

I won't touch Paddy or Powers whiskey; I'm sure they make great paint thinners, but that is about all. I personally dislike bourbons as well.

@indianabond I have a bottle of Powers Gold now on recommendation from an Irish-born friend and honestly, I kind of like it.

Perhaps then I've just been spoiled by nicer Irish whiskeys like Jameson 12, Redbreast, Blackbush, and Midleton.

Once at a restaurant I was unimpressed with their selection of Whisky and tried one I had not heard of before.. "Glen Parker" .. truely terrible. It knocked Littlemill off my list of whisky to avoid. I found out later that it is the cheapest thing available from the LCBO (my government booze monopoly). A NAS Speyside (if it was 5 y/o I would be surprised, well maybe not ) produced by the same people that produce Glencadam and Tomintoul, neither of which I mind at all.
An overly bright, astringent dram with a hint of amonia, and a fortunatley short finish (except for the burning)

I have to agree with Hogshead that some things I have had I really disliked but I did not see them as bad, just unbalanced, boring or expensive. I initially found the McClellands Islay nearly undrinkable. I tried a drink holding my nose so that I was only tasting it and it was quite a bit better. I think the nose on that is so overpowering and bad that it makes the taste seem worse than it really is.
A couple years ago regular Old Crow and Ballantines Finest had the dubious distinction of being relegated to my wife's egg nog whiskey, that is things I would not drink neat or with a bit of water.
Canadian Club 6 year old was pretty awful too. The latest iteration of the Famous Grouse 10 year old vatted malt is almost ridiculously over sherried although an earlier bottle I had a few years ago was great.

As with whisky excellence, whisky sucktitude is wholly subjective. However, my current Avoid List carries the following:
Cu Dhub (pronounced "Coo-doo"): whiskyforeveryone.blogspot.com/2009/06/…
"Cu don't".
House of Lords 10yo Single Malt (available only at gift shop inside Westminster): thegreenwellystop.co.uk/whiskyshop/…
Offered a taste of this to a friend who works in a widely known whisky shop, who sniffed the glass, looked thoughtful, took a sip, pointed eyes skywards, paused, swallowed, and said "Oh, No". If they do indeed serve this in the Lords' bar, I'd suggest they only drink it once they've already drunk all the good stuff.
Isle of Jura "Superstition": Life's too short to drink this stuff. Prophecy, on the other hand...

In my opinion Glen Moray 8 year old was terrible. At a tasting night with 10 bottles and 14 friends, it can in as the lowest. Millstone 5 year old was better (at the night included Balvenie doublewood, Jura 16 and Caol Isla Chieftans 12 among others).

Ok, we have hundreds of discussions and about the good stuff, the whiskies we love and cherish, but I wanna hear about the ones that just plain sucked! I have been pretty lucky so far, the only bad whisky I have had was Makers Mark... altho based on reviews that must have been a personal thing, but it remains the only whisky I have ever ended up using as drain cleaner! So... whats the realy bad stuff?
