Just for fun: a whisky quiz

I took the online Jeopardy test the other night (and did poorly), so I was in a trivia kinda mood (and my moods are usually pretty trivial). Prize package for most correct answers includes bragging rights, increased self-esteem, and the satisfaction of a job well-done.

Which distillery's bottle design was influenced by a Pictish standing stone? Name the Scottish distillery that was closed and razed in the 21st century, but whose stills will be used anew by a Belgian distillery in 2013. Name two Scottish distilleries that produce single malts under three different brand names. Which Scottish distillery was officially reopened by Prince Charles in 1998? What is the only distillery to receive a Royal Warrant from Prince Charles (also, reportedly, the makers of the Prince's favorite whisky)? What two still-operating Scottish distilleries were mentioned in a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson? Name the man who was American's #1 distiller in the year 1798, producing more than 11,000 gallons of whisky in that year. What was Peachy Carnahan's (Michael Caine's) favorite whisky in the film The Man Who Would Be King? . According to the films, James Bond’s favorite drink was a “shaken, not stirred” vodka martini (in the original Ian Fleming books, however, Bond drinks a wide variety of libations). In three Bond films, however, Bond is seen to drink what two single malts? (Brosnan drinks the same one in two films, Craig a different one in another.) What's the connection between Jim Beam bourbon and the TV series I Dream of Jeannie? (Hint: it's seen in every episode.)

I started of well, but things fell apart from the Robert Louis Stevenson question on. :( Thanks though, that was fun indeed.

Okay, so my little quiz didn't generate much interest, but I've had a couple of requests for the answers in the last month, so here goes for those who might be interested:

  1. Pictish standing stone bottle design: Balblair

  2. Caperdonich's stills will be used by the Belgian Owl distillery.

  3. Springbank and Bruichladdich were the ones I had in mind (are there others?)

  4. The Prince reopened Benromach in '98.

  5. The Prince likes Laphroaig 15 yo (discontinued, but I suspect he has a healthy supply)

  6. From Stevenson's "The Scotsman's Return": "The king of drinks as I conceive it / Talisker, Islay, or Glenlivet!"

  7. George Washington

  8. Peachy liked his Glenlivet.

  9. Brosnan drinks Talisker in two Bond films, Craig is seen sipping Macallan in another.

  10. Jeannie's bottle is actually a Jim Beam Christmas decanter from 1964.

@WhiskyBee I missed the quiz first time 'round! And yes, there is at least another distillery that releases single malts under 3 or more names - Loch Lomond - with 7 brand names according to Wiki. The most recognisable ones besides Loch Lomond itself include Inchmurrin, Old Rosdhu, Inchmoan, Croftengea and Craiglodge.

@systemdown -- thanks for that! To be honest, that's a distillery not on my radar, so I missed that one.

By the way, it seems that Stevenson made an awkward rhyme with "conceive it / Glenlivet," yet in TMWWBK, Michael Caine pronounces it "Glen-LEE-vit," which suggests Stevenson knew what he was doing. Is this the original or more proper pronunciation?
