- Brand: Langs
- ABV: 40%
They say that Langs Supreme – on the market since 1861 – is composed of 25 malt and grain whiskies, the youngest in the mix being 5 years old. The blend also gets 9 months in a marrying tun before being bottled. On the label of the miniature in front of me is printed ‘Glengoyne Distillery’ and an image of this Highland distillery, so it’s a safe bet that this malt form an important part in this blend.
Lovely nose on popcorn, chestnut and apricot pastry. Barley sugar and blueberries, milk chocolate and some grain cookies. This is actually quite nice.
The arrival is sweet, but weak. Pity, after such a lovely nose. Sweet malt, some fruit in the guise of apples, apricots and Reine Claude plums. Some sherry went in here, I’m sure. And very sweet grain as well. The palate is light and accessible and very summery.
The finish is surprisingly long on sweet malt and apricots, but after a few moments it leaves the mouth very dry.
Fine nose, okay palate and long finish. The better blend without being grand.
