Laphroaig Triplewood

So, came across this listed at a store I will be visiting in a few weeks. They refer to is as "exclusive."

I read the Connosr reviews, but I'd like to get a few more opinions--anyone tried it? I have some QC, many reviews say the TW is a bit smoother and sweeter--which would be a plus for me.

If you're looking for an outside opinion, ralfy did a review in 2011 (youtube page below). He scored it an 83 vs the QC which he earlier gave a 90, for reference.

He explains where the spirit sat (ex-bourbon, then quarter casks, then ex-sherry) but he's not impressed. In my opinion his reviews were more on-topic in those days.

I haven't tried it. I would be inclined to taste it before buying a whole bottle.

Triplewood is ok. I've tried it but never bought a bottle. If I had to choose only one, it would certainly be 10 Cask Strength, or Quarter Cask, over the Triple Wood. But Triple Wood is still quite enjoyable.

Thanks, guys. Alas, no CS Laphroiag listed at all; they do have the 18, but it's a bit out of my price range. And I agree, tasting is always best, but this isn't KWM, the only place I've ever had that pleasure.

I'll probably forego the Triplewood in favour of a fresh Abunadh (I'm also hoping to procure a couple of good Canadians and some bourbon during this visit).

@Spitfire I have never seen Laphroaig 10 YO CS for sale anywhere in Canada. I've read a lot about it since starting out on my journey 5 years ago and have always looked out for it on trips to places, but never found it.

Not all "holy grail" whiskies have to be rare and expensive... they just have to be hard for individuals to get..

Hmm...sounds like a new thread coming...

I'm quite a big laphroaig fan, and really like the triple wood. It's got quite a good heft of sherry. Quite a murky, dirty sherry style, which I'm quite a fan of. The bottle I had got shared and drunk quite quickly, so I didn't have a great deal of time to get to know it, but was well worth it I thought. It's pretty cheap from places like ocado. As far as affordable sherried laphroaigs go, you can't go much wrong with this.

Has anyone had the opportunity to put the triplewood head-to-head with the travel exclusive PX cask?
