Our Flemish whisky collectif selected a very young Linkwood indeed. It was distilled on 14th May 2008 and bottled on 15th May 2017. So the cask had just celebrated its 8th birthday. It matured on a bourbon barrel and was cut to 46% as Signatory usually does with its whiskies bottled in the Un-Chill Filtered Collection.

The nose is very sweet, almost like candy, on mostly pears and apples with a hint of peach. Reminds me a bit of jelly beans or Haribo bears, it is that sweet. And a touch waxy as well, which I find pleasing. Soft on the spices.

The mouthfeel is just fine, pretty oily. Softly spices. Some pepper and nutmeg. While the nose was soft and playful, the palate is quite robust. I did not expect that. Pleasant surprise. It also gets a little tropical note from pineapple. Very quaffable.

The finish is medium long and remains constantly sweet, while the spices slowly fade.

Dangerously quaffable Linkwood that you had better not put on the table during a card game, unless you have decided beforehand that you don’t mind killing it.
