I've never been, but I know Josh of the Whiskey Jug favours K&L. Josh is an LA local and has a pretty well stocked cabinet, so I imagine his store of choice is probably worth a visit.
I don't know LA geography, so I have no idea if the LA K&L location is near to where you'll be, but that link above has an address so you could always do a quick bit of Google mapping.

If you're not familiar with K&L, peruse their blog to get a sense of their (over)salesmanship and their selection of store-pick casks.

I didn't mean for my previous comment to be a complete diss on K&L. Their salesmanship is over the top sometimes, but they have an awesome selection, mostly really good prices (see Talisker 10 and nearly any Ardbeg), and interesting store-pick barrels.
I've been happy with the business I've done with them online and I wouldn't hesitate to do more business with them in the future.

@Ol_Jas Nothing suggested by my remark. I just remember the TW thread and the way they marketed their "house scotch".

@Nelom @Ol_Jas I didn't see a reply to this thread until just now, thank you for the response. Good call on K&L Wines, I forgot about that one. There is one 7 miles from where I'll be staying, not walking distance, but I may find my way out there. I was pursuing their site and there are a number of very interesting independent/exclusive bottlings that look very interesting including a 1996 Arran 20 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky. Also Ardbeg Uigeadail is $55 - a great price considering in Ontario it is $179. Thanks again for the suggestion!

@Mancub It's worth the cab fare.... Even in Alberta the best I could do is $82 (which with today's exchange, is close).

Talisker 10 is cheap too.
If you're looking for reviews of those K&L store picks, you might have to search the Scotch board on Reddit.

I'm going to be in Los Angeles for a few days on business, spending most of my time in Culver City, can anyone recommend some good spirit shops in the area? A few larger stores that I know of are Beverage Warehouse, Wally's Wine and Spirits and Total Wine. At a quick glance there are a number of small liquor shops in the area I'll be staying. @Nozinan clued me into a past thread about Total Wine and some of the pitfalls to look out for. Can anyone vouch for the stores listed above or weigh in on if they think checking out a number or small independent liquor stores would be worth my time? Thanks!
