For my 20th encounter with Macduff, let’s stick with Wilson & Morgan, but go back in time a bit, for this one was distilled when yours truly was only 8 years old and it was bottled when I turned 26. I daresay that’s a golden oldie (talking about the whisky, mind you). It’s a sherry cask, which explains the lovely color.
Ooh, yes, this is good. The nose is rife with baked apples – even reminds me of calvados – and freshly pressed orange juice. Hint of chocolate. Very fresh and summery.
The body is fine, the malt is sweet and softly spiced. Sweet as in apples, but with a sour note from grapefruit. A touch of OBE, but that gives this old malt it’s charm. The spices on duty are nutmeg and cloves. This is a textbook example of a fresh and sherry matured Macduff. In my opinion, it is next to impossible not to like this.
Despite the rather modest ABV it lingers nicely. Good finish, if you ask me.
Nope, this is not earth shattering, but quite nice, especially on the nose. Thanks a lot for the sample, Manny. I quite enjoyed this.
