The Swedisch Mackmyra has quite a few gems in her Säsongswhisky (seasonal whisky) range already, with names like Iskristall, Blomstertid, Midnattssol, Midvinter, Sommartid, Vinterdröm and Vinterrök. In September 2017 Skördetit was added to this range. It can be translated into ‘time to bring in the harvest’. It was composed of quite a few different cdasks: first fill bourbon and oloroso, first fill Masi Costasera Amarone, first fill American Oak that previously held PS sherry and finally some first fill Mackmyra Reserve casks of 30 liters. Quite the mix indeed. The odd one out surly is the Amarone cask from the famous Italian wine producer Masi Costasera.

The nose is very sweet and reminds me at first of a mix of rum and cognac! Mostly rum, actually. Marzipan, coconut, baked apples, but also cider apples, nuts and cherries. Different, but very pleasant.

The mouthfeel is just fine. The arrival is very spicy, but immediately also very, very sweet. More than on the nose, I am again reminded of rum. A bit weird, but very nice. Midpalate some citrusfruit kicks in with a vengeance with blood oranges and grapefruit in the lead. The spices fade a little to offer up more sweetness still.

The finish is very long and warm and somehow reminds me of Christmas.

This is quite an amazing whisky. To create such a good dram from such a mix of casks is quite a feat. I would not mind finding this under my Christmas tree this year. Around 80 EUR.
