This Mackmyra ‘Special 01’ was named Eminent Sherry, so it’s no surprise that it was matured on Spanish ex-sherry casks, deep in the Bodas mine.
The nose gives me raisins, figs and vanilla. It also offers some coconut, apples and a tad of celery salt. Adding some water makes is quite creamy.
The raisins return on the palate, but also a lot of oak wood rears its head. Young animal, this one, but very drinkable at this strength. Adding water intensifies the fruitiness.
The finish is medium in length but rather oaky.
This is the kind of whisky that you will enjoy during a dark winter’s night with friends, in front of the hearth. It costs about 60 EUR, which is a tad expensive for what you get.
