Mackmyra has two working distilleries, the second being a hyper modern ‘gravity distillery’, where everything works top-down and so gravity plays an important role. In the so-called Mackmyra Village one can go shopping and have lunch. A distillery visit obviously can be arranged. This Svensk Ek – which simply means Swedish oak – matured for 90% on American Oak and 10% on 200 liter casks that were made from oak trees that grew on the island Visingsö for hundreds of years. It was used for a long time in the shipbuilding industry.
The nose is fresh and fruity with the emphasis on agrums: lemon, grapefruit, lime. Quite some honey, a sweet and sour apple and clear hints of white bread which, I feel, means this is rather young spirit. But that is not a problem, as it is very nice and summery.
It is surprisingly creamy and feisty on the palate. Immediately a prickly pepper and some ginger that precedes the sweet fruit – again apples and citrus. Nice.
The finish is short on more of the same.
Fairly simply but quite tasty aperitif style whisky. Svensk Aperitif. Certainly appropriate now that the sun is coming out again.

When i had this i found that the oak gets way overpowered if it sits for too long in the glass. Did you get anything like that?
