Some of the Bruichladdich expressions like the classic or the 10 don't have too much peat. The Amrut cask strength original (haven't tried more recent batches) batch would fit that nicely.

Glenmorangie 10, Old Pultney 12, Cragganmore 12, Glengoyne 10 & 12, all nice standard malt zone whiskies I find. I definitely am in the mood for that sometimes!

Never tasted the Highland Park 15. Maybe it's in the malt zone. I'm curious. Surfing tonight about it.

Ever taste the An Cnoc 16? I haven't tasted either the 12, 16, or 21. Seems the 21 is heavily oaked judging by what I can gather online. . . .

Wait a minute, Glenfarclas 21 doesn't have much sherry influence? Can that be true?

Just got the An Cnoc 10 and 16 in addition to the Old Pulteney 17. Hoping for some "malt moments."

Tasting Note for Glenfarclas 21 by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Apple, orange, less sherry than the 15yo. Peppermint again?!
Palate: Incredibly smooth. Barley-rich, just a textbook smoothness and rounded character that leaves you gasping for another sip…
Finish: Long, barley-rich, awesomely smooth, very little oak influence.
Overall: Very, very pleasant. Could teach Roger Moore a thing or two about smoothness.

Hazelburn 12? Never tried it. judging by the reviews, it has a "Brora-esque" style barnyardy quality that seems quite interesting to me.

@rigmorole I've had 2 bottles of the Ancnoc 16 yr...My 1st bottle was bottled in 2009, and my 2nd bottle in 2012...The 2009 had a bit more subtle vanilla, and spices (cinnamon in particular) while my 2012 bottle reminds me alot of the Balvenie 15 yr Single Barrel (solid vanilla flavors).
Overall - I really enjoy the Ancnoc 12 yr; great vanilla with lemon citrus!

(Interesting that MoM points out the barley since their first sentence is "Bottling Note A heavily sherried 21 year old from the Glenfarclas distillery.")
My highest rated 2 malts in this category are OCeallaigh 's first 2 suggestions.

Glengoyne 15? I've never tried it, but I've heard it's a malty lassy!

I notice no one is giving any attention to japanese. So I will mention some of my faves. Yamazaki 18, Yoichi 20, nikka taketsuru 21, hibiki 21. I may be wrong in assuming, but I don't think they are sherried. To me, they have a nice, rich oaky and fruity presence with an incredible texture.

Do you occasionally like a scotch that isn't very peaty/smoky and doesn't have much sherry influence either?
I call scotches that fit into this category, "the malt zone" because their malts and grains are foremost in the nose, the palette, and the finish.
Some of my favorites in this category are Springbank 10, Glenfarclas 21, and the Scapas.
Malt Zone scotches can also be savory, with "meaty" flavors dominating the spectrum. Clynelishes often fit into this category if they haven't been "jazzed up" with sherry cask finishes, etc.
