A beautiful series from Malts of Scotland is the one named ‘images’, sporting a monument on the label hinting at the distillery where the single malt hails from. There is not much more information (usually), but since the lighthouse Carraig Mhor is close to Port Askaig, it seems to me that this is more than likely a Caol Ila. That is good news!
Ha, and a sweet Caol Ila this is! The nose has the typical oyster sap and salmiak, but also a bit of pepper, but what stands out in this one is mostly pineapple, peach and apricots. This was most likely a refill sherry cask. After a few moments, some banana and even a hint of brown sugar emerge. Quite nice, indeed!
On the palate, it becomes ever more tropical. All kinds of yellow fruits, nice and juicy, supported by loads of peppers and nutmeg, ginger en liquorice. Fish oil and green tea complete the picture. Lovely salty edge. Does not need water!
Long, sweet and spicy finish that brings a smile to my face.
Ah, what a dram, and undoubtedly Caol Ila. Just under 90 EUR.
