After the Glen Class-series, Thomas Ewers felt the time had come for something new. His first blended malt is a composition of 5 single malts from the Lowlands, Highlands, Speyside, Islay and Islands. All of the components are, obviously, at least 18 years old. That makes this one worth your while, if you know that you can get it for less than 50 EUR!
Sweet nose on toffee, gooseberries, a truckload of honey, hints of marzipan, nougat, hazelnuts and apple skins. Almond shavings as well. Hints of grapefruit. Quite an expansive range of scents, if you ask me. Semoule! I love it.
Soft arrival with nice spices, giving it a bit of a prickle. Very sweet on honey, but now I also detect a nice hint of peat. Hardly any wood. The fruit is mostly apples. And citrus.
The finish is surprisingly long, quite peppery and sweet.
A nice concoction, actually. But too smoky to serve as an aperitif and too light to be an after-dinner dram. Well, maybe not. You know what: let us have it during the meal. It is quite worthy.
