This Mannochmore was bottled by Claxton’s, Which means it comes in that very typical square bottle that reminds me of perfume instead of whiskey. Nevertheless it is a single refill sherry hogshead that yielded almost 300 bottles at cask strength. By the way, this is only my 10th Mannochmore and that in over 4.600 tasted whisky’s. That must mean something.

The sherry influence is very limited on the nose. I do get some sultanas and maybe even a hint of apricot jelly, but apart from that this is a very creamy nose on butter, pear drops, cake and cookies. It reminds me a bit of Gyproc. Freshly cut grass and icing sugar, imagine that. In the background I get a hint of freshly pressed orange juice. Accessible and good.

The body is surprisingly light and the malt soft of taste. Orchard fruit (apples, pears and a lost gooseberry), with lots of floral elements. Think rose water and grass. Grape juice with the lost raisin. But this is quite good! It just turns a bit dry.

The finish is medium long, noted for grapes and ginger and ends with grapefruit and pear drops. It leaves the mouth quite dry, making you reach for a glass of water. It is also only in the finish that you truly feel the alcohol.

To be honest I thought this was quite good for such a young animal from this – in all honesty – blender’s factory.
