I have begun my journey into the older more complex whisky world and decided before I begin buying expensive bottles I would invest in miniatures to determine whether or not I would fork out the dough on an entire bottle.    Nose: A bouquet of roses, rich sherry mixed with old oak, elegant comes to mind while nosing this dram. Sweet candy emerges, hints of spice and herbs, white pepper then honey custard cherries, soft vanilla and toffee, malty cereal development. After about 15 min the whisky opens up and delivers glazed crescent, bananas, apricot, pudding and cinnamon. In the very back is rich chocolate and bourbon honey    Taste: Smooth malt with a strong initial flavor of smoked lavender and spice, herbs, oak driven sweet spice, floral oak with a sherry influence coats the mouth like syrup. At the tail end there is charred oak, sherry smoke, then honey.   Finish: Mouth watering, the finish fades a little too fast for me I would give it an even medium finish. I could drink this every night! After the third sip the 30yo age begins to show leaving my mouth coated with cereal, oak barrel and sweet sherry honey   Final Thought: Wow! For a 30yo I am extremely happy I bought a bottle. The price tag of $200 is well worth it. Miniatures are definitely the way to go before deciding on an expensive whisky.
