This is the fifth edition of our thirty year old Speyside Scotch Single Malt Whisky. and a new bottle and label design whilst the distillery remains secret and the whisky sherried (by the colour of it). Now, how does this compare with previous batches? I Loved the 3rd and 4th batches (both scored 88/100), and so wanted to do a H2H with this one, when i found out i already drunk my samples, and “only” had the previous batch of the 50 yo. oh well, i set to taste this one alone. About the %ABV, i asked Ben from MoM , and he pointed out they wanted to do the same ABV for the new 30,40,50 hence they cut it at 43%… i would love to see this one at around 50%.

Nose: mmm. Is this a perfume or a malt ?! Wood. Dried fruit drenched in honey. Sultanas. Figs. Cherubs. Plums. Cocoa. Wood resin. Cinnamon. Cardamom. This is heaven in a wee sample bottle. it is!

Palate: Big malty vanilla and dried sultanas chocolate. Chilly powder. Pepper. Cocoa. Dates. All engulfed by cinnamon and Cereals. Lovely mouth feel there even at 43%

Finish : chocolate. Cocoa powder. Coffee beans. Dried fruit spread.

So, is it better than previous batches? Yes. by far. – I am in love. This is super stuff, and even at 43% it’s perfect. can it be better at higher ABV%? who knows, but it I don’t really mind. this is perfect as is.

Worth the money? yes. Grab it for Xmas before it vanishes.
