I guess it was only a matter of time before a single cask for Belgium would be bottled. This former rum cask was filled with spirit on 30th July 2017 and bottled at 55% on 2nd August 2020, so just three years old.

On the nose the malt from M&H offers lots of sugar, vanilla, mint and beeswax, making it all but unrecognizable. But luckily it’s all fresh and pleasant. Gooseberries with icing sugar and lots of grasses. Fisherman’s Friend mints. Quite pleasant indeed, especially considering the young age.

The body may be light, but the alcohol is well masked by lots of sweetness in the guise of pineapple and crystal sugar with nutmeg and candied ginger. Now the M&H DNA shines through, but is shaped nicely by the rum cask.

The finish is surprisingly long and sweet on vanilla and sugars with some ginger at the death.

That was quite good for such a young malt. Around 70 EUR. Thanks to Buds & Barrels for the sample.
