Israël… the land of milk and honey. In 2012 the first distillery was founded in the heart of Tel Aviv named Milk & Honey. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign they could invest in materiel and a building and in 2015 the first distillate trickled from the stills under the watchful eye of the late Dr Jim Swan. By now they have built up quite a range. I’ll put 8 expressions to the test, starting with their (diluted) new make. I tried samples of this in 2016 and 2018. This is new make from 2020.
Lovely nose on lots of barley sugar, potato skins and err… honey! Funny that I get honey on the nose, considering the name of the distillery. But a nice, very clean new make and better than what I had tried before from M&H. Promising.
With an ABV of 50% the arrival is sturdy. Surprisingly creamy, spicy and sweet. Very good, I must say. Hint of pineapple and mezcal. Floral notes. Again very clean.
The medium long finish is quite sweet and warming.
Lovely new make that probably also works good in cocktails. The best of the three I have tried so far, for sure. Thanks to Buds & Barrels for the sample.
