As stunning the land is there, I would imbibe once but only if I vacationed there especially since I've now heard of this. But overall its not my way of waking up. Great quote also! Thanks for sharing that.

I very rarely have enjoyed a Morning Sun. I do like the concept though. I would imagine something like Old Pultney 12 should be a nice one. Light in body, but bright, and a nice little salty zip to get your day started. hahaha I should start this ritual along with my coffee!

I like this discussion, unfortunately I have not had a "Morning Sun," but I do have Christmas vacation coming up. This will be the time for me to enjoy a Morning Sun numerous times and get some reviews in. Depending on the weather, this is how I will decide on the whisky. Raining-Ardbeg, Sunny-Ancnoc 16 you see where I'm going........this is making me want a dram right now.

I know of "hair of the dog" and have partaken when younger and with much less discernment regarding what I was consuming.
Morning sun has a much nicer ring to it and even though I enjoy Whisky I have neither heard of it nor considered it. I drink fairly infrequently and in modest proportions but imagine that for a one off occasion it may be fun. As a rule I don't drink alcohol in the day as I usually don't enjoy it as much.
Thanks @rigmorole for sharing the article, very interesting.

What do you think of the "morning sun," a.k.a., morning dram of whisky? Over 230 years ago, the venerable Dr. Samuel Johnson had this to say:
In Journey, first published in 1775, Dr. Johnson notes the local custom:
"A man of the Hebrides … as soon as he appears in the morning, swallows a glass of whiskey. Yet they are not a drunken race, at least I never was present at much intemperance; but no man is so abstemious as to refuse the morning dram."
Perhaps that’s the magic of the Hebrides, just as Johnson said.
How about where you live, fellow Connosr? Is a morning dram a stigmata to bear, or an accepted way to "wakey wakey." And what say you of public opinion? Do you enjoy a "morning sun" as they say?
