Nc'nean Huntress 2022
Review by @markjedi1
- Brand: Nc'nean
- ABV: 48.5%
Aha! A new release of Nc'nean. This time Anabel and her team opted for a slightly different composition than for their regular batches, namely 61% STR Red Wine Casks and 39% Ex-Bourbon casks. It is also bottled at a slightly higher alcohol percentage. This is the spring whisky par excellence of this young, dynamic distillery that now boasts quite a few loyal followers (I count myself among them). The special thing about this whisky is that it was produced with three different yeast strains, one of which is normally used for the production of rum!
Yes! Delicious nose on vanilla, ferns, wild flowers, banana, pineapple and other tropical fruits. This is really spring in the glass. And then that honey... more than a cartload. Toffee. A buttered toast. Toffee apples. Beautifully layered and captivating. An aperitif whisky with charisma.
Nice and oily. Sticks to the teeth. Candied banana (!), lots of oranges, juicy pineapple and pebbles. Very mineral, even. Licorice, white pepper, sweet chestnuts. Nice balance.
Honey, honey and more honey in the finish, supplemented with a soft bitterness. Lightly drying.
Impressive for a three-year-old malt. I'm happy with my two bottles. They are not going to survive the summer.
