New advertising on Connosr

Nozinan: I was ambushed last Saturday by the same. Then again yesterday morning on a different PC. In Saturday's case, the link eventually took me to The Whisky Exchange webpage. Not so yesterday. Not sure if that was the intended destination, or not.

I saw it.

I didn't like it.

It popped up on my Android. Really annoying...

As you know, we are working on a major update to Connosr - which is both expensive and very time consuming – and we're doing this all on very limited resources.

To help things along, we are trialling some adverts and promotions targeted at visitors who are not logged in to the site – once a user signs in, they don't see the ads.

We’ve always kept advertising to a bare minimum on Connosr – especially for logged in community members – and what ads we do display we try to keep relevant. You won’t see adverts for loans, insurance, gambling, dating etc… just relevant whisky retail promotions.

If you do come across an overlay advert, you can skip it by clicking the 'Proceed to Connosr' link or the 'Login' link under the ad content. Or you can simply navigate directly to www.connosr.com/login/ which will never carry ads.

The site is completely free to use - and always will be - so I’m sure you can appreciate that we need some kind of revenue model to fund the running of the site and future developments.

@Jean-Luc thank you for coming to the discussion and giving information from the Administrators point of view. I really enjoy the page and appreciate the huge workload it takes to make Connosr work. My comments on the ads are feedback.

When I remember I use the Connosr links to buy bottles from TawE and MoM. I Should do it more often as a thank you for running the site. If more UK based users did this then it could make a difference.
