New review page layout

Hi folks, the review pages on Connosr have had a little makeover as part of a round of updates we're working on. You can now see the new layout if you visit any review e.g connosr.com/reviews/balvenie/…

As well as the actual reviews pages, the review indexes for brands www.connosr.com/reviews/balvenie/ and for bottlings connosr.com/reviews/balvenie/… also feature the new header, you'll see that these now contain information about the average ratings e.g "This score was calculated from 103 reviews and 359 ratings by the community."

The is part of a larger round of updates for the site in the coming months. If you spot any problems with the new design do let us know, most layout issues can be fixed by clearing your browser cache.

Just read a review and was kinda curious about a new design. Well I first thought I liked the old more, but often this just needs time. It looks clean nonetheless and I really like the new features (esp. the 'was calculated by...'). Thx for the support guys!

@Jean-Luc I think I like the new updates, particularly the stats to see how the site average score was calculated. One thing I've noticed for whiskies with a single review such as this one connosr.com/reviews/…

"The average score for this whisky is NaN"

Could read better, e.g. "No average score available, not enough data" or something to that effect.

Also, my browser is showing a picture of Balcones True Blue as the whisky picture for the aforementioned review when it ought to have been the generic whisky pic - I've force reloaded the page to check it wasn't a caching issue.

Not an issue but a comment on readability / usability of the master review index page for a given distillery - currently the user-supplied review titles are black, bolded and in larger font, followed by the whisky expression name in smaller grey font.

My first inclination was to scan through to find the expression I was looking for; not the review title which to me seems like it should be a secondary concern. I find it a little difficult to pick out the whisky expression titles when scanning down the page as the review titles stand out so much. If the visibility of the whisky expression were improved and perhaps the whisky review titles toned down, I think it would improve usability.

But maybe it's just me.

Hmm on second thought, the search is technically a "review search" so I see why the review titles are bolded. But if I search for "Balvenie" in reviews, I still feel like I would want to see the expressions stand out more or at least on equal footing with the review titles - it would be different if the search returned reviews where "Balvenie" were a part of the user-supplied review title. Anyway, minor concerns, I'll stop now, promise.

Thanks for taking the time to feedback @systemdown and @Wills, we'll take those points on board for sure. The NaN score is an error, so thanks for picking up on that and the other bits.

Hi @JL

Did you remove this nice 'This score was calculated from 103 reviews and 359 ratings by the community' or is it just me?

I can only see the avg. score in the review :(

Greetings

And btw. I still have the NaN rating. But I don't care so much about this, I guess this just happens for bottles which are rated only once or twice.

@HughesDePayens

@Wills That NaN thing should only be happening if it's trying to divide by zero (or by a string, or something else that isn't a non-zero number), so I'm guessing that it's not counting the number of reviews properly in the DB, if you're getting a NaN result somewhere.
