This event went very well. Though I did not try as many malts as I usually do, highlights for me included Laphroaig's An Cuan Mor and Cairdeas, and the Single Cask Nation bottlings, especially their Catoctin Creek Rye 2 year old and Glen Moray 7 year old.

Impressive variety. What happened to Highland Park 18? It's good to see the Carideas was there. No Springbank or Longrow? The 12 Year springbank is quite good and should have been included at the very least, not to mention more exotic springbanks that aren't all that expensive. The springbank cask strength 12 is extremely good and could have been found in time for the event if purchased a few months ago. It's getting harder to find in summer. I think some very good scotches were overlooked in favor of some so-so ones like Dalwhinnie, Glen Grant 10, Glengoyne 10 and 12, the younger Auchentoshans, the younger Arrans, etc. Still . . . all told, an impressive pour list overall. I think if I had been asked for input, I would have recommended a special pouring area reserved for rare scotches from mothballed distilleries that are defunct but from which there are still bottles floating around the USA especially. Thanks for sharing!

Correction: I meant Springbank 10 is quite good with a classic 70's profile that borders on farmy, in addition to the 12

Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid that these offerings are determined by which distributors decide to show up and what they are willing to bring. In the past few years I have never seen Springbank at any of the 4 or so major whisky tastings in New York City. If only.

Regarding Highland Park, in the past they have always offered the 18, but this time they did not have it. Of course, people were asking. I can say that the Freya was not disappointing though.
