Hello all I can assume that all whisky connosr members are involved in other sites as well. I just wanted to list the others i also am part of to see/hear others opinions of these sites Whiskybase- I enjoy this one for the store and way I can view my collection For Whisk(e)y Lovers- good threads The W club. This cost an annual fee but is worth it to me

@Blinkadelic Great discussion I'm also on For Peat's Sake, also Whisky Whisky Whisky Forum is good plus many of the distillerys have social groups that you can use to explore on your whisky journey. Hope this was helpful. :)

@PMessinger -- I also hang out at Whisky Whisky Whisky, but haven't posted anything there yet. Yes, it's a valuable resource, and they certainly have some very knowledgeable folks, but they also have some snobs ("I only drink independent bottlings!" "I never drink blends!"), along with those who have 3000 bottles and 300 casks in their collections. Again, it can be a great resource, but also somewhat clique-ish and intimidating for newbies.

I belong to forums pertaining to my other interests (jazz, sports, whatever), but I consider Connosr to be the greatest of them all. This place is like an extended family where everyone from newcomer to seasoned veteran is welcome. I've seen newcomers at other forums greeted with derision and snarky wisecracks, when they're not ignored outright. Here, they're given helpful advice and guidance from people who know what they're talking about.

I can't praise Jean-Luc and Pierre enough for creating this site. It's truly one of a kind.

I read straightbourbon.com for whiskey related news. Good resource for bourbon fans.

@WhiskyBee I like your reply and agree with you. I just want to nit-pick on your comment about blend-snobbery: I know there are blend-snobs, but I think it's possible to not drink blends while not being a snob also. I have tried a slew of blends, hoping to find some affordable scotch that I like. Blends are different - I simply don't really like them and haven't yet tried one that I thought was worth the money. So, I don't buy blends anymore. It's nothing about being snobbish, it's not like "well, I only drink single malts!" Haughty stare, it's just that I tried them and don't like them. If I eventually tried one that I liked, I'd buy it, but after a half dozen or more failures I finally saw the pattern, so I'm not going to waste my money anymore. When I need something cheap (and I often do), I get bourbon or beer.

So, I guess my point is try not to jump to conclusions about someone just because they don't drink blends!

@valuewhisky -- fair enough! I certainly didn't mean to offend those with a strong sense of, as well as justification for, their own likes and dislikes. Heck, I've made some derisive comments about blends myself, so I understand the sentiment. But there are a handful of blends that I enjoy greatly, so I approach them with an open mind.

If you're ever in the Chicago / NW Indiana area, I'll pour you a dram of Black Bull 30 yo and see if that doesn't qualify as an exception to the rule! ;)

Back on topic: I also enjoy For Peat's Sake and Whiskybase, though the latter can be confusing to navigate until you get used to it. Very valuable resources, however.

I guess I'll put in my two cents on topic as well: I actually have never read any other forum sites. Connosr was the first one I went to, and it offers up about as much discussion as I want to read. I've always thought this was a good site. The rest of my online whisky time I spend reading various blogs.

@WhiskyBee - I might just show up in Chicago if you would pour me a dram of Black Bull 30!

@paddockjudge - What have I done!

If you like blends, I have plenty of Johnnie Walker Red to go around, if that suits you...;)

Whiskymag.com has a decent forum, but it looks like it's from 1998 -- nowhere near as slick as Connosr. And it's not as active these days, but the backlog of old discussions is worth browsing.

As you can assume, there are many whiskey related sites out there. I carry links to a number of them on my blog. Here are a couple:

Connosr is my favourite (though I don't not drop in as often as I should...I seek to rectify that going forward), but I find that the WWW forum is easier to drop in and make a comment or two on the discussion threads, so my quantity of contributions is greater there.

Anybody with an interest/curiousity in Irish whiskey must check out the Irish Whiskey Society forum. Its' the same format as WWW but with fewer, and more relaxed (Connosr-like, if I may say), participants. Anything you want to know about Irish whiskey can likely be answered by one of the ten most active contributors on that site.
