The name of this NAS expression of Paul John leaves little to the imagination. It’s a vatting of malts that matured on oloroso casks. I can, while tasting this, not get rid of a crazy image in my mind’s eye: Shilton doing his crazy dance. If you know Shilton, you know he is a terrific bloke with a sense of humor from London to Bangalore. That alone is reason enough to try this malt!

The nose is dark and sweet and Paul John’s DNA is immediately recognizable. Dried fruit like dates and figs with a handful of hazelnuts sprinkled with chocolate shavings and presented on a plank of toasted oak. Hint of curry powder and sugar cane. This is just great.

Silky soft and oily on the palate. Good strength too. Dark sherry influences are joined by some Oriental spices and a slight bitterness, but never oaky. Chocolate and figs evolve towards espresso. Touch of cinnamon.

The finish starts juicy, but then quickly becomes dry and bitter (but not over the top).

Wonderful. Less than 70 EUR. May batch 2 reach us quickly. Thx, Carl.
