This Port Ellen ‘spring’ bottling by McGibbon’s, under their Provenance label, has a full golden color. Sherry cask, maybe?

The nose starts off creamy and lush. Typical oysters with salt and seaweeds are present, but also a nice touch of old leather and even orangettes (orange gum in chocolate, you know?). Yep, I’m pretty sure now it was a sherry cask. Hand warmth releases quite some vanilla and even caramel. Great nose.

On the palate, the rather weak attack is nevertheless spicy. Midpalate the typical Port Ellen traits appear. Salty with a touch of tar and a whole lot of citrus.

The finish is not especially long, but very soft.

A nice Port Ellen that could do with a little more punch.
