Edinburgh's Royal Mile and Arthur's Seat for your lady. Arthur's Seat is an easy 20 minute hike and once you get to the top its view is way cooler than Edinburgh Castle. When you're there, do the whisky scotch experience at Royal Mile. There's a bunch of whisky shops and clothing shops, so that should appeal to the both of you
Glasgow: i love it here. people say it's dodgy and it's the #1 place in the UK to get shanked (don't worry..jus tdon't walk through the park at night). Now, i stand 100% by glasgow and had a very lovely experience here. it's a place that celebrates the common man, so if you're a rich bitch they may not like you. truth be told, i'm a common man so i fit perfectly there. places in glasgow in terms of bars to check out: Ben Nevis and Islay Inn. Ben Nevis as a wonderful selection of whiskies and those guys are very knowledgable. there was one dude who was like a cross between david duchovny and the lead singer of collective soul who was really helpful there. Islay Inn is EPIC! i ended up being there for 6.5 hours and dancing with the locals. i didn't know this but people ended up paying for my meal and whiskies because they were happy that i took the time to check out their town. Yummy ice cream shop called Big Licks is there. That street that has Big Licks ...it's a cute walk with boutiques, cafes and stuff..
i hear macallan has an awesome tour there.
i don't have any other suggestions because i didn't scour through all of scotland, but i hear great things about aberdeen and the area where oban is.
keep in mind, if you want to do a tour of a distillery, make the investment in portland by making friends with the bartenders. there's a chance they may know the brand ambassadors and they can refer you to the distillery. that way, you can get the VIP treatment and try rare shizz for a discounted price or like me for free! ^_^ so..yeah...those guys are very helpful...i think you have a great lead from the dude you know in portland, so i'm sure he will lead you to the right people.
if you can, make it out orkney islands. I haven't done this hike but the "old man of hoy" looks epic. and of course there's highland park distillery.
islay: 8 freakin distilleries do play , man. fak! so awesome. people are friendly and nice. u can take the ferry and hop over there.
oh yeah, the train ride from glasgow to edinburgh is just 45 minutes. don't take the bus from glasgow to edinburgh..people will tell u it's like 10 pounds more to take the train but when i went it was like 3.5 pounds more for the train and it's quicker. maybe that has changed. idk!

If you make in north to Speyside, I've stayed at Castleview B&B near Dufftown. There are many distilleries in the region, Aberlour, Glenfarclas, Glenfiddich, Glendronach, to name a few, that offer tours. Always good to buy a distillery bottling, one you can't purchase anywhere else.

@Sharkk276 I will definitely take a look at that B&B. They Speyside area is where I was thinking about setting up shop, then venturing out from there to other areas as needed. When you say a distillery bottling, what do you mean? They offer different varieties at the distillery than those that are on store shelves?

@BlissInABarrel if you're going to post an inside joke on my thread, you have to at least tell the class what it is. ;)

@Jonhelmkamp Distillery bottlings are special casks that they set aside and let you fill your own bottles. You can only purchase them at the distillery; not available for retail purchase. It's a great time to buy a bottle from a distinct cask.

@Sharkk276 That sounds sooo legit... I just hope we can make this happen. Looking at the numbers, it definitely looks possible.

@UisgeJon My wife and I are staying at the Southbank Guesthouse in Elgin in Speyside and when I talked to our driver/guide he was surprised and said that it was a very good spot to choose as among the many villages it's one of the most centrally located for distillery hunting. The Southbank has quite a good rating on Tripadvisor however Castleview just looks sexy. I actually went and took a look to see if maybe we could rebook there hahaha.
If you can buy distillery only bottlings. They're like the best sort of collectable that you can possibly get, especially considering our conversation about whiskies that you cant purchase elsewhere. Also the cool thing is your getting a cask strength whisky and more often then not from what I've been told, they're EXCEPTIONALLY awesome! If you haven't become a Glenlivet ambassador, do so if possible. It's free to become a Glenlivet Explorer and once your an ambassador they send you a members card and a key that is supposed to give you access to a special tasting room. Guess where I'll be spending part of our trip hahaha.
You're also supposed to be able to bottle your own whisky at Aberlour and Glenfiddich if I remember correctly. Nothing cooler then choosing your own cask and bottling your own whisky. There is also a tasting tour at Glenglassaugh on the coast that you can try a 40+ year old whisky Among others. And the drive down the coast is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL!!
God now I'm getting more and more excited about my trip!!!!
You're going to have so much fun buddy!!!

Hey all my fellow Connosr's. My fiance and I are boucning around the idea of possibly going to Scotland for our honeymoon, which basically makes me feel like the luckiest S.O.B on earth to have a woman that amazing. We are still looking at logists and such, but it definitely seems possible.
Does anyone have any recommended places to stay? Suggestions for things to do? Ways to have an amazing Whisky adventure? Tips for how to find great bottles at great prices?
I'm so pumped right now. This would be a dream!
