Roe & Co has its own distillery and is in full swing, but before their own product is mature, they pay the bill with releases of whiskey that they have purchased elsewhere. In the case of the Cask Strength Edition for 2020, it's an Irish whiskey that matured in port casks. I am therefore expecting a lot of red fruit.

On the nose I am not disappointed in that respect. Sweet and sour cherries are my part, as well as a hint of fermenting strawberries and some grapefruit. Admittedly, less sweet than expected. Some blueberries appear after a moment, so it evolves from sweet and sour to dark sweet. There are also some notes of green garden herbs in it.

On the palate, the influence of the port cask only really becomes clear with a considerable spiciness (cloves, oregano, black pepper) that precedes an equally strong fruitiness. Cherries, blueberries, blood oranges, grapefruit juice and candied citrus peels. The taste easily exceeds the promise of the nose.

Nice and long, warm and spicy finish that reminds me of mulled wine.

At the World Whisky Awards in 2021, it won the prize of best single malt in its age category (13 to 20 years). I'm not surprised by that. Thanks again, Benny!
