I have used a couple of these. Had some Talisker 18YO in one for close to a year that I polished off this week. Tasty and no negative effects that I could find.
That being said, I saw a post on here for a place called specialtybottle.com and I will be hitting that up. The bottles I am using a little too big. You can pick you sizes, shape, caps at this site, and they are afforadable too.

What about a re-using a small pet bottle? Surely not an attractive option, but should keep it perfectly air tight.

I always use the 20cl bottles you can buy from Diageos' malts. (Laga, Caol, Tali) They have a cork, so thats why I like them:)

@PeatyZealot - I use these as well, but you have to check the corks as some of them are not tight. I also keep any 20cl JW Black bottles that people give me (some corks from full-sized bottles fit into them), and any 37.5cl bottles that I've finished. Have to say though, @onibubba, some of the bottles on that website look like they'd be useful!

@NilsG the plastic does weird things to delicate single malts... Also, dont put a nice single malt in a hipflask if you decide to wait longer than a few hours to drink it.

I just received my order from specialty bottle company. 24 ea. 4 Oz clear boston rounds with caps. Also ordered plastic shrink bands for the caps. They are heavy duty bottles and are going to look great. Now I can open those special bottles, and immediately decant a nice sample or 2 for the future!
I am putting them through a cycle in the dishwasher and letting them thoroughly dry before using.

Onibubba: are the tops of the bottles you ordered ceramic or plastic? I like ceramic better. If they are ceramic, I will order some. Thanks for suggestion

@rigmorole These are screw on plastic caps. I am sure the ones with flip top stoppers are plastic too. The ceramic ones are hard to find. The 4 oz size is perfect.

When my bottles get down below one third full, I've decided to start putting the rest of the whisky in smaller jars. Bottles with corks that are of the same quality as whisky bottle corks are hard to come by. Usually they are more porous and seem like they might let in some air.
Today, I purchased some bottles that have porciline tops and a little rubber gasket, like miniature versions of the big green Grolsch bottles.
My question is this: will thin rubber seals around the top of the bottle affect the quality and flavor of the whisky being stored in the bottle?
