Scotch for rustic camping

once a year i go camping on the east coast of sweden. no campground, no tent, just a sleeping bag and a fishing rod. last year i chose laphroaig 10 to be my companion which fit the atmosphere well. i liked that it was smoky and not much sherry. for me, anything with obvious sherry is too luxurious for the surroundings. i'm looking for some more suggestions.

can anyone out there recommend a good scotch to take on a rustic camping trip?

Last fall we hiked above 8,000' in the Wind River Range. Rugged, beautiful. We took Talisker 10, and it fit right in.

rustic and 10 year aged anything don't go together in my book. Mountain men would drink unaged white dog.

@JeffC A few decades ago a book was published titled "Real Men Don't Eat Quiche."

Not being one to conform to society's cliche'd standards, I always considered writing the sequel: Real Men Eat Any Bloody Thing They Want :-).

For us, camping = Ardbeg two ways.....in the bottle and in homemade marshmallows (my wife sees a campfire and immediately thinks s'mores).

I usually think of Laphroaig as my go to rustic scotch. Really, anything peaty. Maybe Longrow CV? Maybe Ardbeg 10yo? Lagavulin seems to sophisticated to my mind.

The only other thing that comes to mind is a nice bourbon or rye. They seem very rustic. But whatever you like works.

What an interesting question! How about a 2009 release 12 yo. bot. Lagavulin; the 57.9% version which I thought slightly more warming than the 2009 Distillery Edn. Limited Cask @ 57.1% abv. Both are excellent and certainly 'warming'.

Cheers.

thanks all for your suggestions! so far i'm leaning towards Talisker or Ardbeg. i tend to agree with @Nock that Lagavulin is a bit too sophisticated for the trip. thanks @JeffC for brining unaged white dog into the discussion! that gave me a good laugh!

I agree that Talisker 10 and Longrow CV are very good choices.

Talisker is great, maybe Laphroaig Quarter Cask too. I would recommend a Rye. Something about Rye seems inherently rustic to my mind. Maybe like Rittenhouse or Bulleit, or something sort of old school like that.

Glencoe. It's got what you want when you're in the wilderness.

Definitely something peaty - I think the Laphroaig 10 was an obvious choice. That would be perfect, along with Ardbeg 10 or Talisker 10. Also consider a good bourbon - I would love sitting around a fire with a nice glass of Booker's.

I go camping a few dozen times a year and Talisker 18 comes along on each trip. Sometimes Ardbeg Uigeadail joins us as well.
