Although the label still says Seagram’s, the brand 100 Pipers was sold to Chivas (Pernod Ricard) in 2001. The blend was designed in 1965 and launched first in the States. But it was in Asia that 100 Pipers really hit it big. The blend was introduced in Korea in 1992 and in Thailand in 1993. Once released in India in 1995, they never looked back. The blend is so popular, that it is actually blended locally. The fingerprint malt – albeit only since 1975 – is Allt-a-Bhainne. The blend is named after the regiment pipers that joined the fray in the Battle of Culloden.

The nose starts rather closed and needs some time. Marzipan, white chocolate, popcorn. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get anything else.

It is quite sweet and malty on the palate, but at the same time flat and uninteresting. I cannot pinpoint any fruity note and the grain component seems to be very large. This reminds me of a bottom shelf bourbon with a bit of spices.

The finish is short.

And that is all. What a let-down.
