A Secret Grain, that’s not something you encounter often, is it? The German bottler The Whisky Agency joined forces with Animal Spirits to release this 46 years old grain that matured on a sherry butt.
Wood glue is the first thing on the nose, but it soon followed by banana, pineapple and coconut, corn on the barbecue and pencil shavings. Then white chocolate and even some mint kick in. Vanilla custard and almond past round things out.
Nicely creamy and very sweet on a truckload of vanilla and some woodspices. Reminds me quite a bit of a very good bourbon. Chocolate and banana return, upholstered with popcorn and apricots. Nicely balanced.
The finish is quite long, somewhat drying and bright. Apricots at the death.
Very well matured grain that took the best from a rather inactive sherry cask. If I would be allowed to venture a guess, I’d say this is Invergordon.
