We previously tasted some Secret Speyside from The Whisky Jury, but fortunately Joeri makes it a bit easy for us to find out which distillery made this liquid. You only have to look at the label and especially at the font used. No? Another hint? The distillery is a proverbial stone's throw from the Blacksboat Railway Station. Let's get a taste right away.
The nose starts rather subtle, but you immediately notice that it has the potential to become very complex and old school, so I give it some time and hand warmth. Yes, a sigh of red fruit develops, while notes of marzipan and mandarins appear, complemented by a handful of hazelnuts and fig jam. Slowly but surely it becomes very creamy and apricots and some eucalyptus appear. After about three minutes it really gets going.
Creamy on the tongue and yet relatively light at the same time. Nice and sweet on raisins, mandarins, melon, cherries and peach, but soon this becomes nice and spicy with black pepper, cloves, camphor and a pinch of cinnamon. The fruit is complemented by walnuts and salted caramel. Evolves from summer to autumn.
The finish is excellent. Long, warm and spicy with something of autumn leaves and marzipan on the deathbed.
Very enjoyable!
