The Meadowside Blending Company bottles both single malt and single grain. The former under the label The Maltman and the latter under – you guessed it – the label The Grainman. This Maltman bottling was released especially for Whisky Import Nederland and concerns an unnamed Speyside malt, distilled in 2006 and bottled at cask strength after 13 years.

Very aromatic nose on red fruit, a cartload of honey, candied peach, sultanas, pecans, dark plums and Turkish Delight. If I'm not mistaken, I'm back on Easter Elchies.

The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The malt is silky smooth and a tad funky, but again offers a panoply of red fruit, nuts, honey and plums. All this supported by a soft spiciness of cloves, licorice and cinnamon. No doubt about it: this is Macallan.

The long, slightly drying finish keeps me captivated.

Why doesn't Macallan market these types of barrels itself? Is really excellent stuff! Thank you, Manny.
