Knowing that I have a soft spot for new make, Niek &n Ilse convinced Shelter Point Distillery owner Patrick to fill a little vial with the clear stuff. No ABV is mentioned on the bottle, but my guess is between 60 and 70%.
The nose is surprisingly creamy and shows most of the typical new make traits: fresh malt, hint of cooked vegetables (although very little in this nose, I must admit), but also a hint of nuts. Very clean and accessible, even at this strength. Adding some water makes it very sweet, which I did not expect. Good!
The palate is a perfect continuation of the nose, creamy and soft. Again that hint of nuts, but also something that almost reminds me of chocolate. Water makes it sweeter, bringing a grappa to my mind’s eye. Very quaffable, in fact.
There is hardly any finish here, but what a clean spirit indeed!
Good new make. And the signature is actually recognizable in their inaugural release!
