Osborne Pedro Ximenez 1827 Premium is a favourite of mine. It's cheap and good. And also, I've noticed a lot of whiskies aged in ex Pedro Ximenez casks so that could be of some benefit.

Thanks. Didn't know if I'd have to spend an arm and a leg. @michaelschout

Sherry itself might help a bit but won't give you the complete picture - it's not only residual sherry in the wood of the barrel that gives the flavour, but the effect the sherry had on the flavouring chemicals in the wood.
That said make sure that you grab an oloroso for your investigation - that's the sherry that most closely ties in with heavily sherried whisky flavours.

@JJBoud, I'd suggest GlenDronach 12 yo Original or Glenfarclas 12 yo. Both very affordable, both excellent introductions to the sherried stuff.

@JJBoud If you find yourself in Salina, make your way to Phil's Liquor (across from the mall). Phil can help you out with what's available in KS. I was just there last month but can't recall what he had in the way of sherried whiskies.

I just heard about Phil and will be making a trip soon. Thanks. @two-bit-cowboy

@WhiskyBee I think @JJBoud is searching for Sherry and not for sherried whisky. I can't help you here but I like the question.

@Wills, yes, I did misread that, sorry. In the words of Rosanne Rosanadana, "Never mind!"

@JJBoud, you might want to see Ralfy's latest vlog at ralfy.com. It's as if he anticipated your question.

@WhiskyBee Ah, I too misread the question! Ralfy was great as usual.

@JJBoud How could I forget this: Phil pulled a bottle of Aberlour a'Bunadh Batch 16 out of his back room while I was there. Still the same retail price as when it was first out.

If you're after an oloroso sherry then it doesn't get much better than Gonzalez Byass Matusalem Oloroso / 30 Year Old. Can get for about £18

Can anyone recomend a good affordable Sherry that will help me identify the flavor in Sherried Whisk(e)ys? Thanks in advance.
