Their website proudly states ‘Scottish at heart’ and that’s nice, considering the fact that the blend is put together in… Bordeaux, France. Someone whispered in my ear that it is distilled near Leith by a subsidiary of Whyte & Mackay before being shipped in bulk to southern France.

I feel the nose is rather sharp. I suppose it contains a lot of grain whisky. It is very sweet on all kinds of citrus. Reminds me of Fanta, really. Banana bread and breakfast cereals, lots of honey and just a hint of malt. Not great, but not bad either. Typical nose of what I sometimes refer to as bottom shelf stuff.

On the palate it is very light, honeysweet, but immediately quite alcoholic. Again sugared breakfast cereals, but also liquorice, cough candy and a bit of vanilla and pepper. Rather middle-of-the-road and not something that makes me happy, but not terrible either.

The finish is very short and somewhat rough.

Well, this matched my expectations which – considering the price tag – were not very high. You’ll find it in the supermarket for 14 EUR. Leave it there please. Thanks, Jan…
