In 2016 5 friens from Gembloux (Belgium) - Thierry, Ludo, Gwen, Laurent and Pascal – got together with the plan to launch a Belgian whisky. They used Crowdfunding and in December 2016 reached their goal. Skot’Tiche was born. It’s finished on port and cognac casks and available in 50cl bottles at 40%. The provenance is not wholly clear to me. The label says pure malt. Apparently 10 EUR of every sale goes to charity, which is not bad, considering a bottle is only 30 EUR.

The nose is very light and not outspoken at all. Vanilla, raw grain and lemon peel. Hand warmth does not improve things. Flat.

The body is light, the taste candy-like. Wine gums and a truckload of vanilla. A pinch of white pepper and lots of tannins give it a very bitter edge. Meh…

The finish is bittersweet, but very short.

Well, I guess it’s okay fort hat price, but that’s still being generous. One of the least interesting whisky’s I’ve tried all year. Luckily 30% goes to charity, so it’s not a complete waste of money. Thierry Van Rentherghem also released the August 17th Single Malt, the Cosmik Vodka, GemBlueGin, Casa Belga tequila and Gabriel Rhum. Both the vodka and gin have won prizes. This whisky will not soon join in those festivities, I think.
