I am looking forward to a peat lover's dream tasting in Sydney on 24 July, which the Oak Barrell is calling a "Smoke Stack Masterclass".
The tastings for the evening include the following:
Kilchoman Vintage 2006 Release 46%
Bruichladdich Port Charlotte ‘An Turas Mor’ 46%
Provenance Laphroaig 1998 10 Year Old 46%
Old Malt Cask Ardbeg 1991 18 Year Old 50%
Provenance Caol Ila 1997 11 Year Old 46%
Bruichladdich Octomore 5.1 169ppm 61%
On the peat end of the spectrum, I have previously put away bottles of the following: Ardbeg 10 years old, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Ardbeg Corryvrekkan, Lagavulin 16 years old, Lagavulin 12 years cask strength, and Laphroiag Quarter Cask. My favourite of the above is the Corryvrekkan. It will be interesting to try a range of others too as a comparison.
Anyone else on this forum planning to come? If so, please let me know and we can meet up on the night. I am bringing my two brothers-in-law, one of whom migrating from Cornwall to Tasmania, and will be staying with us for a few weeks in transit.
It sounds like a great night. Unfortunately it's a bit far for me to travel. I have always been intrigued by the Octomore but hesitate to spend out on something that may sound better than it drinks.
