Speaking of going to Islay

The other thread has stirred up some memories for me; last year I was lucky enough to spend a few days on Islay. I think I mentioned it here once or twice, but it occurred to me that some of you might want to read a little about my experiences. I wrote about them in my travel blog, so if you don't mind insufferable long-windedness, give it a shot. Here are the pertinent entries:

btptravels.blogspot.ca/2014/04/… btptravels.blogspot.ca/2013/10/… (scroll down towards the bottom if you want to skip the other stuff)

Even though I did this trip last year, I haven't finished updating the blog about it... What can I say, I didn't have time on the actual trip and when I got back I got distracted by other things. I fully intend to get back to it, though, and finish it off. I still have to talk about my day at Laphroaig and Lagavulin.

Anyway I don't know if you guys give a damn about it but there it is.

Really enjoyed that. Nice to see the passion. I must go back some day and take the time to savour the past. Jonesz

Thanks so much for sharing! I imagined every single part of it, it's amazing how you could manage to drink so much whisky without breakfast & lunch. I'd be on the floor laughing & crying. You made me think of my potential trip to Islay. How long were you at Ardbeg and how long at Laddie? Because I'm planning the visit to the distilleries with a clock on my hand and probably that's not the way to do it. It seems you were in each of theme a long time, couple of hours? All best, hopefully you join us for Laphroaig!

Thanks guys. Going to Islay is one of my favourite things I've ever done.

@goldfilm Well, I was at Bruichladdich for quite a while... I arrived about 20 or so minutes before my tour, which was a good hour and a half. Then I hung around for at least an hour or two afterwards talking to people.

As for drinking so much while I was there, well, what can I say... I like to think I can hold my liquor all right. ;)

At Ardbeg I got to the place quite early. I took a walk around the area for a good hour or so, had lunch for another hour, then did a two hour tour. I would have liked to have done more that day but if I wanted the tour I did, I had to be there at that particular time. For the chance to sample so many rare Ardbegs, it was well worth it. It was nice to take a bit of time and not rush around as well... I hate to rush.

I forgot to say: I did go to Laphroaig and Lagavulin as well. Just haven't written about them yet... But I will soon. Er, soon-ish, anyway...
