I have always had a bit of trouble with the name Speyside Distillery. It seems a bit like a delusion of grandeur, no? She can obviously be found in the Speyside region, but do you have to call it that then? Anyway, I tried this bottling before at a whisky & chocolate tasting in Ghent. Today, I am leaving the chocolate in the cupboard.
The nose is quite fatty. I get red fruit (strawberry and berries) with some almonds. Gingerbread.
Equally fatty on the palate, with again the red fruit and spices. Loads of sugar. Somewhat like kirsch. Plum liqueur, so to speak. Midpalate I even get some lavender.
The finish is quite long and spicy.
Nothing to get lyrical about, but there is nothing wrong with it either. A bottle will only set you back 40 EUR, so you do get value for money.
