Nose: Smoky, sea water, salt, and very fruity. Apricot compote, dates, orange, fudge, and some chocolate. Aged balsamic. Deep, dark, and smells like an older heavily sherried wonder. On the whole, it's rather elegant and graceful, but it never loses the coastal quality.
Palate: Apple, thick fudge, dates, figs, salt, and mince pie. It's dry and slightly sweet. There'sa bit of wood and chocolate. Burned cherries and burned darkened fruit cake that's been soaked in some rum. Something rubbery and torched tyres. I'm not sure what I expected, but I do like this.
Finish: Decent finish on the same dark notes, wax, and a little smoke and salt. I think that this is a very good whisky, though it's not very typical of a Springbank, even with some of the characteristics present. The finish fades a bit quickly. Solid, very drinkable sherried number that actually seems advanced for its age.
