@OdysseusUnbound

I’m headed to Edmonton in early November, and I’m hoping the stars align and I can snag a bottle or two of these beauties.

Batch 5 at ABV 52.2% is the one to avoid. There is a a touch of sulpher in this batch.

Thanks @paddockjudge - that is a good resource. Ben's page is the only place I've managed to find that info in the past. I find it a bit amusing how little info Springbank actually put out about their whiskies. I've bought a couple of these bottles (Batch 14 and Batch 6) and they are both magnificent.

I've never had a Springbank 12 CS I didn't like. I think I'm on my third opened bottle now. Managed to keep this one over a year. It's batch 11 and delicious.

Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel here? That info on Ben's Whisky blog is already widely linked to across the whisky web.

As a side note, I find Springbank's opacity on the subject a little frustrating, but also charming in a way that only an outfit like Springbank can pull off—much like the Kilkerran Work In Progress line that was never adequately labeled. God bless 'em.

@MadSingleMalt Not everyone knows about the other website. This makes it easier to find.

Nothing wrong with that.

@Nozinan, but the thread itself includes a link. Are we planning to perpetually keep this thread up to date with the info about new batches and hope to make no mistakes? Or let the thread become outdated? Each option is bad, which is why it's a bad practice to duplicate info that can change over time.

@MadSingleMalt As long as the link is good, the original message will direct people to the right place to be up to date. In the meantime, the information provided will not likely become inaccurate.

For people who are not aware of the link and are wondering about this and do a search. this will be very helpful.

MANY THANKS @paddockjudge for bringing this to our attention.

I have unopened bottles of batch 10 15, and 17 in my bunker I've finished (and reviewed) the 15 and currently have a 16 open.

The Springbank 12 bi-annual releases have pretty much become must buys for me.

On a side note the 16 to my palate tastes pretty much exactly the same as the 15. I haven't had glasses of each side by side to compare but I find it weird how people pick up difference tastes and smells between batches.

I'd say the same about Lagavulin 12. They've all tasted wonderful but very similar to me.

Has anyone else noticed the trend in the Springbank 12 CS batches? Batch 17 = 70% sherry + 30% bourbon casks (Aug 2018) Batch 18 = 50% sherry + 50% bourbon casks (Jan 2019) Batch 19 = 35% sherry + 65% bourbon casks (Sept 2019) Batch 20.........?? At this rate it's going to be completely bourbon matured in no time, but that may be to your liking @MadSingleMalt laughing

Oh, I didn't realize they'd pushed past the 50/50 point! Thanks, Hewie. And you were totally reading my mind there at the end. astonished

I'm loving the one I've got, it's 54.8% but I don't know what batch it is or what the sherry/bourbon breakdown is. How does one determine this? I bought it a few months ago.

@Hewie
Hewie replied

@BlueNote that will be Batch 18 - the second to last batch. Batch 19 has just been released. see benswhisky.co.uk/p/… Batch 18 was the 50:50 bourbon:sherry which was the first major deviation form predominantly sherry maturation. How do you like it? I have it too and it is a different beast from the previous batches I've had.

@Hewie I would LOVE to try a Cask Strength 12 year, 100% First Fill ex-bourbon Springbank. smiley

@Hewie, I think I'm missing the info about batch 19 on Ben's site. Can you point me to it? Or just spill the beans on its ABV?

I haven't bought a Springbank 12 CS in a few years. If I can find a batch 19, I'll probably find a way to splurge. (I'm with @OdysseusUnbound!)

@MadSingleMalt Yeah it hasn't been loaded onto Ben's page yet. I found the info on the Springbank page itself: Springbank 12yo Cask Strength The new Springbank 12yo CS has been bottled at 57.1% ABV and was matured in 65% Bourbon Casks + 35% Sherry casks. springbank.scot/news/2019/… I had a wee glass from my bottle of of Batch 18 last night - it was like a beefed up 10 year old.

Interesting that they've gone from the 12CS being around 2/3 sherry cask to 1/3 bourbon, to 50/50, to 2/3 bourbon 1/3 sherry. I wonder if they're struggling to get decent sherry casks like everyone else or they just think it does better being more ex-bourbon cask?

@OdysseusUnbound They have a 14 year Bourbon Wood cask strength if you can find one. I snoozed last year when they were selling for $115 CAD at Bishop's Cellar in Nova Scotia.

@Hewie, so 57.1% is the magic number to look for! Thanks very much.

@paddockjudge, I couldn't find the info on that other site, so I was asking for a pointer to it. I don't know if there's a hole in my thinking here that you're trying to expose or something, but OK man.

They've also released a 15 year old rum cask this week. Seems to have been instantly snapped up by flippers though angry

@MadSingleMalt, fair enough, valid point. I may have interpreted your intent incorrectly.

I like your new profile image, it has clean lines, the colours are pleasing to the eye, and the glencairn is completely full. Be be careful not to spill any.

@Hewie It's the first one I've had so I don't have a basis for comparison. I'm liking it a lot now that it has been open for a while. Tried a drop or two of water last time and thought it better without.

@paddockjudge, thanks. My club recently held a contest to design a new club logo and tat was the winner. The guy who designed it packed in a few thoughtful touches and nods to our hometown of Madison.
