Douglas Laing seems to have quite a few casks of Strathclyde, for there are already a couple in their portfolio. I first tried this 25 Year Old from 1990 at the whisky festival in Ghent in March 2017. Believe it or not, this is only my third Strathclyde!
The nose is honeysweet and mildly spicy. Some vanilla, lemongrass and marzipan. A touch of oak and some garden herbs. Not a lot besides that, which makes me experience this nose as rather ordinary, to be honest.
On the palate, though, it is very creamy with quite a bit. Must be the ABV. Again very sweet on vanilla and marzipan, but also some citrus notes. Lemon and some grapefruit. The oak speaks and offers white pepper and some woodsmoke.
The finish, which is long in my book, is warming and drying.
Not exactly a grand grain, but quite pleasant indeed. But I had expected a little more after a quarter century of maturation.
