Strathclyde 26 Year Old 1992 Claxton’s

Strathclyde can be found along the river Clyde in Glasgow and was founded in 1927. It’s a Lowland grain distillery that makes up a big part of the famous Long John blend. The distillery has 7 Coffey Stills. Between 1957 and 1975 they also produced the Kinclaith malt, but I digress. There are hardly any official bottlings, but this is a nice release by Claxton’s in their perfume bottles. It matured for no less than 26 years.

The first thing I notice is that the nose has something umami. How weird! Then I get some lemongrass, garden herbs, marzipan and famer’s butter. Some apple cake in the background. Hint of wood shavings and vanilla custard. Nice, but I’m not yet impressed.

It is soft and creamy on the palate with sweet notes of marzipan, lemon, vanilla and a whiff of white pepper. Pleasant enough, but still not impressed.

The finish is medium long, warming and a touch drying and sweet.

Nice grain, but no more than that. Around 120 EUR. Thanks, Manny!
