A new bottling for the boys and girls of the Bring Your Own Bottle Club – BYOBC in short or ‘biopsy’ – split with the Casqueteers, those lovely guys in Holland. Bottle 30 of 30 has been added to the collection. This is a very young Strathearn, a new kid on the block. The color is lovely and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

On the nose, it is immediately clear that this is a young animal. I cannot deny it’s new make character. But still, the nose is quite lovely on red fruit and mint, barley sugar and something candy-like, like Haribo bears with some citric acid. Apricots and figs, some gooseberries and some rose petals. Candy on the nose, indeed.

Despite the high ABV, the arrival is smooth. Honeysweet with just a prickle. You can taste red fruit, mint and pink grapefruit, but also mango and peach. This is off to a good start. Then the spices kick in with a vengeance. Cloves, black pepper, cinnamon and mint. Midpalate it becomes a bit dry.

The finish is very long, sweet and spicy… and dry.

I have only had one Strathear so far, which was just a little older, but this one is much more to my liking. Must be the cask, right? But that such a young malt can be so pleasant already is testament to the fact that Strathearn knows what they are doing.
