@HarkinsBG A very interesting bottling indeed. From my understanding it is actually Benrinnes you are tasting, as the story goes that Stronachie (the actual distillery) had to shut down ages ago. When they went back to refurbish, (I am not positive it was refurbishing but whatever the reason) they found an ancient bottling of the distillery. So the fellows who founded it decided to try their best and get a whisky similar to that bottling. The closest they were able to find was Benrinnes. We just recently got the 18 year old expression and I am looking forward to reviewing it.

@Youngupstart fascinating information; thanks for the input. This is actually a very good expression and that means I'm interested in your thoughts in the 18 year old...

@HarkinsBG Just got it into the store but have not heard very exciting things about it. Never the less I won't boot it until I try it. I will keep you updated.

I bought 4 mini's in Calgary just for kicks and when I was back across the border, I almost turned around to get more. I found it at BevMo as well and am quite happy I found it.
I consider it a real sleeper as it seems to me to be a very honest dram. No gimmicks, just a good tasting whisky.

I happened across this at my local bottle store, and a quick internet search on my phone indicated that it's quite rare and highly regarded. It's apparently bottled by A.D. Rattray and is advertised as a San Francisco World Spirits Competition Double Gold winner for 2010. It was available for $10 less than what I would have paid online or at the local Bevmo!, so I pulled the trigger.
This has gotten some pretty good reviews on some other blogs and websites, so I'm interested if anyone on Connosr has input on this...
